Background of the Study
Financial accountability in state-owned tertiary institutions is crucial for ensuring that public funds are used effectively to achieve the goals of higher education. In Ekiti State, state-owned universities and polytechnics are key providers of higher education and depend heavily on government funding. Over the years, however, there have been concerns about the transparency and efficiency with which funds are managed in these institutions. Government policies, including financial regulations and accountability frameworks, play a significant role in promoting financial transparency and reducing financial mismanagement in tertiary institutions.
This study seeks to examine the impact of government policies on financial accountability in state-owned tertiary institutions in Ekiti State. By investigating the existing policies and their effectiveness, the research aims to provide insights into how government regulations influence the financial operations of these institutions and propose recommendations for improving financial management and accountability.
Statement of the Problem
State-owned tertiary institutions in Ekiti State, like many others across Nigeria, face challenges related to financial accountability, including issues with budget allocation, expenditure monitoring, and auditing. While government policies are intended to enforce transparency and accountability, there are concerns about their implementation and effectiveness.
